Oscar Goodman

Skeezy Mayor of Las Vegas

Some character traits are based on the actual mayor of Las Vegas, but in a lot of ways over-emphasized, to fit the plot and define him as pretty skeezy.

Oscar Goodman came from a decent background near the eastern seaboard; not from an overly wealthy family, but was definitely comfortable. The comforts of life, whether honorable or not, are what have defined Oscar’s character.

Upon his arrival in Las Vegas in the mid 1960s, he quickly made a name for himself as a defense attorney by representing several alleged organized crime figures in the city: Meyer Lansky, Nicky Scarfo, ‘Lefty’ Rosenthal, and ‘Tony the Ant’ Spilotro, to name a few.

Elected in 1989, by an overwhelming majority, Oscar took the seat of political power by means unknown to most. Outspoken and honest (at least on the surface), he has cited “drinking Bombay Sapphire Gin” as a favorite hobby of his, and has stated that those who deface the city of Las Vegas should have their thumbs cut off on television – to teach a lesson. He’s also a fan of corporal punishment, but we won’t go into detail there.

While he has proven to the city that he is tough on crime, but he also has defined himself as one who is not above writing laws to suit himself and those he serves. For instance, he wants to legalize prostitution in the downtown area of Las Vegas. Such a move would increase city revenues and could help revitalize the Fremont Street Experience. Additionally, city laws have been bent in his favor; previously, mayors could serve a maximum of three terms, somehow, Oscar has held office for over 20 years.
